• A comprehensive 12-week course focusing on Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning

• Designed for students in Year 5 who are taking transfer tests or other exams at the start of Year 6

• Two weekly 45-minute live video lessons every Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm

• Sessions recorded and available for anyone who misses them

• Weekly assignments set on Teams for students to complete in their own time

• An overview of the latest findings of neuroscience relevant to child development 

• How knowledge of Cognitive Science can be useful for parents 

• Cognitive Load Theory and its implications for a child’s learning process both at school and at home 

• Advice for parents to manage their child’s cognitive load 

• The problem with “21^st-century skills” 

• How Cognitive Science explains the domain-specificity of skills and the necessity for background knowledge 

• The importance of vocabulary and why you can’t just Google it 

• A Cognitive Science-led critique of some popular education myths, including Learning Styles, left brain vs. right brain, Multiple Intelligences, and the impact of AI on education 

• A survey of effective learning strategies such as dual-coding, interleaving, and metacognition  

• Practical examples and advice for parents about how to implement effective learning at home
