Mark has been Head of Classics at The Beacon school since 2016, where he regularly teaches critical thinking and study skills courses in addition to Latin and Classics. In his previous working life he was an editor with Gramophone magazine and then with Amazon.co.uk, and has written and published several books. He has qualifications in Philosophy and Classics, as well as Applied Positive Psychology and a recent diploma in Online Teaching.

Josh has been teaching at The Beacon since 2015 covering many roles including Pre-Prep Maths Co-ordinator, Lower School Maths Co-ordinator and now Head of Computing and Innovation. He provides opportunities in his lessons to improve logical thinking and reasoning through different coding activities from a young age. His personal experiences through the local grammar school system and a number of years tutoring gives him a good understanding of the skills needed to achieve a variety of exams pupils will encounter over their KS2 & KS3 journey. Before joining The Beacon, he studied Primary Education at Plymouth University and continues to be a keen village cricketer in his spare time.

Mika is an accomplished educator with a passion for learning. After completing her undergraduate degree in Education from London Metropolitan University, Mika began a career in journalism. However, her passion lay in the field of anthropology, which led her to pursue a Master's degree at Brunel University.
Since graduating, Mika dedicated herself to working in education as a teacher, enabling children to access 11+, 12+ , 13+ and ISEB examinations. Mika's interest in neurosciences and neuroplasticity is evident in her approach to teaching, as understanding how the brain works can help pupils learn more effectively. She is always looking for innovative ways to help her pupils succeed.
